Ascent Trip ReportI drove down the night before and camped in my truck nw of Poncha Springs. The next day I drove to Maysville, up the North Fork South Arkansas and parked in Shavano, a ghost town. I hiked up Cyclone Creek, climbed Grizzly Mtn., 13708', by its east ridge and then headed for Cyclone Mtn., 13596', and Carbonate Mtn., 13663'. Cyclone Mtn.'s connecting ridge to Grizzly is some nice work. I found Bob Martin's and Bob Packard's signatures in the Cyclone Mtn. register. On my hike up I collected Wood Ear Mushrooms. On my hike back I collected Hydnum Imbracatum and Boletus Mushrooms, which I sauteed up and froze on Monday. I also noted The Mountain Spirit Winery near Maysville. |
