Ascent Trip Reporta bushwack to 3 areas ..... 1.2km, 40 minutes RT
Parc National de Plaisance is on the north shore of the Ottawa River, just south of Hwy #148, between the cities of Thurso and Papineauville (abt 17km). It's peninsulas, Islands, and marshes is home to a huge variety of flora and fauna. The Park offers a network of multi-use trails, water activities, camping/picnic facilities and just plain nature's enjoyment.
The HP of the park is located at the center of the E-W long park at the town of Plaisance - just south of Hwy #148 and west of the bridge over the Riviere de la Petite Nation.
We were on our way home from Ottawa, after overnighting at our daughter's place. We visited primarily to watch our 8 year old grand daughter play in her yesterday's hockey game - unfortunately her team lost 3-0. She played right wing even though she's a lefty.
Instead of taking the usual boring #417 we decided to drive back via #50 on the Quebec side and check out this park's HP - easy short hike besides the hwy.
The park's Sentier de la Carriere, which runs E-W just south of Hwy #148 and passes just north of the HP, can be accessed from a number of spots. We accessed it at Plaisance.
We parked at the bar restaurant on Hwy #148 just east of the bridge and picked up the nicely-signed Sentier de la Carriere as it goes westbound on a green bridge over the Riviere de la Nation. At 100 meters west of the green bridge the trail comes to a JCT with a N-S track (gated at #148, tight parking here for one car). This JCT is nicely-signed with a trail register box.
After stomping the 60 meter contour I would find out that this park has 3 candidate high point areas, all more or less due south of this JCT. The bushwack is in open woods with no undergrowth to speak-of.
The first most-northern candidate is at 80 meters south, the next (second) perhaps at another 100 meters south, and the most southern (third) at 50 meters southeast of the second candidate. Unfortunately I didn't have my GPS with me and therefore can't provide my chosen coordinates.
Of the three candidates my not-too-reliable eye-level told me that the most northern is the highest.
