Ascent Trip Report

We climbed this peak as part of a two-week trip by KE Adventure. We started the hike at 8200ft. and hiked about 5.4 miles up to a campsite along a ridge. It took us about 3 hours to reach a pleasant grassy area at 10,820ft. After lunch we continued another 2.1 miles to the summit of Pico Zunil. Parts of the ridge trail are overgrown. There are some junctions and no signs. The summit has an open area and doesn't look like a volcano. Back at camp we stayed the night. It was damp and very foggy during the night. We descended a different route going northwest. This trail was about 3.6 miles and we ended up at a paved road at 7100ft. near the town of Zunil. The descent took 4 hours. We went along a narrow road to a hot springs that was very crowded on a Sunday. 12/16 RLC
