Ascent of East Royce Mountain on 2016-11-23
|Date:||Wednesday, November 23, 2016|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
|Peak:||East Royce Mountain|
| Elevation:||3114 ft / 949 m|
Ascent Trip ReportI ascended from the north on the Burnt Mill Brook Trail, and then headed to East Royce first, going up to the wide open ledges, and continuing along the lesser-used trail across the four summit bumps. Next I retraced my steps back to the Burnt Mill Brook trail junction, and went up West Royce. There wasn't any snow at lower elevations, but there was a heavy dusting of it higher up, along with some ice here and there, which required caution.
The start of the lesser-used trail that continues north to the true summit of East Royce isn't obvious, but I found it. I removed a couple pieces of flagging tape I found along the way. I enjoyed some additional views while following that thin trail, so it's worth it even for those who don't care whether they reach the true summit or not.
