Ascent Trip ReportThis was a round trip route with trail and off trail hiking to pick up five peaks. This list included Waterman Mountain (8,038), Waterman Benchmark (7,915), Peak 7243, Peak 7190, and Kratka Ridge (7,515). Very few hikers this time of year going to Waterman or Twin Peaks. Our group met just one person off-trail but had Kratka Ridge all to ourselves. The three provisional peaks are difficult to find without GPS and coordinates and some of the hiking was steep and filled with loose rock and scree. Perhaps the highlight of the trip on this day was finding a very remote and hidden ski hut belonging to the Buckhorn Ski Club. It was many decades old, but still in use, apparently, by the small group of members. The ski lift to this hut is long gone, with just rusty remnants still attached to sturdy pine trees. The road was used to return from Kratka to the Waterman trailhead. Total distance was 9.5 miles.
