Ascent Trip ReportThe drive up Encina Grande Road from California Highway 162 is 5.15 miles, on a well graded dirt road with few ruts. There are quite a few houses and properties along the route and an abundance of no trespassing signs. At the top you connect with Bloomer Hill Road and enter the Plumas National Forest.
There's been quite a bit of brush clearing for fire abatement and there are bulldozed piles of debris. The fire lookout was closed but I climbed up to just below the deck for a great view of the Sierra foothills. The benchmark is on the rocks just west of the lookout. At least four communications towers share the hilltop.
I was surprised on the descent at the expansive view of the Sacramento Valley, with Lake Oroville in the nearground, Sutter Buttes to the south west, and Snow Mountain and South Yolla Bolly in the far distance.
