Ascent Trip ReportThis is the Kistufell above Hesteyri, not to be confused with the Kistufell above Hnífsdalur/Botnsdalur to the southwest. Hiked it from the trail going from Hælavík to Hesteyri after spending the night near the beach in Hælavík. I had come up and over into Hælavík from Hornvík the day before. Some Class 3 cliffs to scramble through, but little exposure. There are 2 cairns at the top of the cliffs to find your way back, but the true summit is another cairn about 1km to the north on the other side of a mostly-frozen pond. I found 2 sets of footprints in the snow and later found out they belonged to a father and son who were camped in Hesteyri and had hiked the same peak the day before. Quite cold and windy on top, but great visibility. Solo.
