Ascent Trip ReportOkay, this is a lot trickier than you would expect. First off, the highpoint is obviously on the inside of the fence, southeast of the monument. It is obvious. What isn't obvious from the photos is that this is an active pasture for Lewis and Clark two Red Devon Oxen! When I drove past at first, they were in the back corner, and to my suburban raised eyes, looked like two bulls! I asked at the visitor center and found they were mostly harmless unless you are stupid, and spend the evening across the field in the main pasture with the run-in shed, horses and sheep. The trick here is to wait until they are moved (either very early or very late). I got lucky as they were closing (and they start closing at 4:15ish on Sundays), so I was able to grab it without the oxen in the fence. This one is not easy, timing is everything. |
