Ascent Trip Report

This was a private hike with Pat Vaughn and Amin Faraday. We drove down to S22, went pass Ranchita to about ¾ mile past the Old Wilson Road, just where the road starts to go downhill. There was a pull out on the left side where we parked. This hike was all cross country. First was Bonny, then Clyde. From Clyde, we hiked to Chimney. This was an interesting bump. There is a rope that you can use to get to the base. The summit block is about 75 feet straight up. There was a rope leading to the top, but it was far beyond our skills. Next was White BM. From White we hiked over to The Thimble. This was the most challenging hike of the day. We went up the east slope to about 100’ from the summit, then went to the left where we found a scramble that we could climb to the summit. It was just to the right of a chimney that again looked beyond our skills. On the way down, we went down the northeast slope and this proved a lot better than the east slope. From the Thimble, we hike down a wash to Goat. Goat was unusual in that if we hadn’t had a GPS with a waypoint for it, we would have never found it. It was a non-descript pile of rocks that looked like a 100 other piles in the area. From Goat, we hike back up to about 5000’ and headed over to Hut, then back to the car. We then drove the short distance to the Yap BM for a successful day of hiking, picking up 8 peaks.
