Ascent of Peak 7008 on 2016-11-11
|Date:||Friday, November 11, 2016|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||7008 ft / 2136 m|
Ascent Trip ReportParked on gritty Jewel Road just off of Highway 50 in front of what I thought was an unoccupied travel trailer. I was surprised when the door of the trailer opened and someone stepped out and then quickly went back inside. Paradise, not.
Stepped over a low fence and slogged up a steep sand slope until I intersected the trail shown on the topo map. The forest service has done a lot of tree clearing in this area and the trail occasionally disappeared in a sea of slash piles, which presumably will be burned this winter.
I enjoyed some fine bouldering at the top. A 10 foot metal pole (lightning rod?) is cemented just below the High Point.
I'd intended to continue the hike by traversing over to Twin Peaks but was turned around by heavy brush.
3 miles. 725 feet gain.
