Ascent Trip ReportSet out with my NPS coworkers to do a hike while we were in Sitka. We hadn't planned it very well and got a late start, but figured we'd just head up and see how far we got. We were nearing the ridge top when we realized we were going to run out of daylight, and also that none of us had brought a flashlight. So my two companions headed down and I jogged up for another 5 min or so to make sure I attained the ridge, I'd guess I ended up at @ 2000'. Then turned around and caught up with companions. The light was falling fast at this point, and soon we were in darkness. With no moon and in the trees we were forced to walk slowly with me in front describing the footpath (roots, steps, mud, rocks, etc). Slow going and not so much fun, since I don't like to see others stressed out on a hike. After we were @ 2/3 down, jeremy figured out that he could use his cell phone screen to light the path pretty effectively, which helped alot. Made it out with no problems.
