Ascent of Pagoda Mountain on 2009-07-23Date: | Thursday, July 23, 2009 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Pagoda Mountain | Location: | USA-Colorado | Elevation: | 13497 ft / 4113 m |
Ascent Trip ReportStarted at Glacier Gorge trailhead. Hiked to beautiful bench east of Black Lake. Scrambled up west-facing couloir two gullies to the south of "The Trough". Ascended East Ridge 400' to summit. The crest of the ridge has some easy Class 3 scrambling; this can be avoided if you wish.
I descended via the "Keyhole Route". This involved a time-consuming traverse into "The Trough" where "The Ledges" intersect. There was about 200' of elevation loss through the "Keyboard of the Winds" and about the same elevation gain up to "The Trough".
I went through the "Keyhole", "Boulderfield", and down the North Longs Peak trail from Granite Pass to Glacier Gorge trailhead. From the Granite Pass branch-off it is 7.2 miles to the trailhead. |
