Ascent Trip Report

Stayed at the wonderful Bridge Inn in Santon Bridge. Drove on very narrow roads to the National Trust parking area. CAUTION: Parking here costs 6.50 British Pounds...I had a handful of change. BUT you can pay via credit card at the National Trust camping store just a short way to the east.

Had a great hike with a lot of nice folks. I went up the standard route, and down the Mickledore gully. The hike up took 2:20 in great weather. Descent was a bit more than an hour.

Used a bit of caution on the first half of the Mickledore descent, as there were still a lot of climbers coming up the gully. To prevent kicking stones down on them, I stayed to the extreme right, and basically downclimbed the 3rd/4th class moves on the cliff, which were all solid. The holds were easy, and it was fun getting my old face climbing skills back in practice. But, alas, even though I was careful, other climbers were slipping and sliding and raining rocks down the gully.
