Ascent Trip Report

San Benito Mountiain is way out there. The recommended 2WD approach is to wind around the mountain on the blue intermediate roads, R1 to R14 to R11 to R13. In dry conditions none of the roads are particularly bad, though there are one or two steep section that would require care in a vehicle without clearance. I drove all the way to the summit and parked where the road said restricted access. If I had to do it again, I would have parked on the ridge right where R14 starts to turn downhill toward the Iridia Rd gate. It looks like a nice couple mile hike to the peak along an old jeep trail, and likely takes about the same amount of time to drive to the peak from there. It would also skip the worst sections of the road.

They do change the gate codes. I tried the code listed by Craig Barlow, and it did not work.
