Ascent of Mount Lukens on 2016-10-22Date: | Saturday, October 22, 2016 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Mount Lukens | Location: | USA-California | Elevation: | 5074 ft / 1546 m |
Ascent Trip ReportOn return, took mostly what is called the Sister Elsie Use Trail. Leaving Lukens and heading west, there is a good trail called the Stone Canyon Trail. Around 4520' I forked left towards bump 4425' on a good trail. At 4440', I took another obvious use trail which forked down into Haines Canyon. Initially steep and sketchy but soon got better trail. I'd recommend avoiding this shortcut and continuing toward the saddle before 4425' to look for the traditional Sister Elsie trail otherwise not too brushy and easy to descend through canyon following various use trails. The spring had water flowing.
