Ascent Trip ReportI awoke in Harrisonburg Virginia pretty darn early. Sadly it was cold and raining! That did not bode well for the rest of my day considering that I had three highpoints on the agenda. I effectively got on HWY 33 and headed west towards west Virginia. The roads were not great and with the weather at times it was down right dangerous. As I headed over one pass it was maybe 50 yards of visibility over a seriously windy steep road. I was in no real hurry however so I took my time until I got to the WV border. I drove up the access road which more or less was a one lane road that I had to drive on. It was more or less devoid of traffic as I passed only one car on the way up the 20 minute drive. The spruce knob park entrance was right off the main road which I took and it took me a few miles to get to the parking lot. It was windy and cold and I had to go to the bathroom so i defiled their "restroom" which was a stinky hole in the ground that had been defiled long before I had arrived. After I was relieved I walked the 1/4 mile to the small stand at the highpoint. It was just starting to sprinkle as I got to the top. I took my pictures and began to hustle back to the car as the wind was blowing pretty hard. There was absolutely no view except the clouds and I was not very happy but considering the wonderful views that I had had thus far I couldn't very well complain. I was just happy the weather had cooperated that I didn't get to wet and was hoping that the storm blowing over spruce knob was heading east and not north east.
