Ascent Trip Report

Well, we were supposed to climb a mountain north of Bishop, California this weekend but the forecast was for Snow, and 80 mph winds. We have climbed in that kind of weather before and decided to stay home and hike up a local mountain. Well my long face and lip sticking out because I could not go north did not last too long once we started up the trail to Bernardo Mountain. I was pleasantly surprised how fun this trail is. Leaving from the San Dieguito River trailhead on Sunset Drive has its benefits, like when we got back there was a Farmer's Market 200 yards from the trailhead with some yummy organic produce, perfect way to finish. This trail is pretty mellow the first half and the second half was steep in places, making it enjoyable and a neat little workout. The weather was party cloudy with a slight breeze. This trail is heavily used by mountain bikes so keep an ear open and you should not have any trouble. All the riders today were very courteous and I got to say, that must be so fun riding down this trail. Although this is not the kind of trail that is uncrowded and quiet, it is however a good one and after all it is number 100 on the Sierra Club San Diego 100 Peaks list. Another beautiful day on a Summit with Kim.
