Ascent Trip ReportThis hike was hands down the best hike of the road trip! Perfect weather, scenic vistas, and my favorite hiking partner made for an outstanding day! Excellent pavement leads from Weed, CA to the trailhead on the PCT at the crest (el 6840). The initial portion of the PCT is flat for nearly 3 miles into Deadfall Lakes Basin, which made for excellent hiking. The trail winds past some smaller ponds before gaining the ridge to the SW of the peak. The final push is steeper, but cut with switchbacks. Mt Shasta is not visible until you are pretty much at the top... We enjoyed ourselves for over an hour on top and could see all of the surrounding area from the Trinity Alps to Sutter Buttes to Mt McLoughlin, and of course nearby Mt Shasta dominating the view. If you are in the area, do not skip this gem of a peak!
