Ascent Trip ReportUsed Silver City Rd just south of Murphy. Parked my truck at the big dirt parking lot on the east side of the road just after the pavement ends. Unloaded my motorcycle and our packs and took off a little before 1300. The road is well maintained and we would have taken my truck but I wanted to try out my new motorcycle as a means of approaching certain peaks. The way in was enjoyable and we stopped at each intersection to make sure we adhered to the appropriate route. The peak bagger app was invaluable! At around 1430 we had accessed the 4WD road that leads to the summit. We decided to park the motorcycle and hike the ridge up to the peak. This gave us about 720' vert and took us less than 30 min. We snapped a couple pictures and needed to head down, as we were behind schedule to get back to Boise (more specifically my kids Preschool) by 1800. We hustled back down the mountain and got on the motorcycle for the return journey. It went faster than expected as we remembered which way to go at each intersection. We were back at the truck, loaded up, and heading back to Boise by 1632. Behind schedule but manageable. Some creative driving strategies allowed us to get to my kids school 5 minutes before the deadline of 1800. From the big dirt parking lot is was 38 miles out and back to Cinnabar/Hayden Peak. It would probably have been at least 40 if we had ridden to the summit. Also, had we both had our own machines it would have been much quicker and may have allowed us to venture in to Silver City to investigate for future trips. It is a uniquely beautiful mountain range that I would be glad to return to, but now the peak has been bagged and I'm ready to move on to the others. |
