Ascent Trip Report

Great day for a hike up to the Shriner Peak fire lookout!

We arrived at the parking area at about 10am. There were several cars already there, but there was still room for more-- would have been even more room if people who arrived earlier had parked perpendicular to the highway, rather than parallel. We parked head-in, and started a new trend: everyone else who arrived after us got the idea and thus doubled the amount of room for cars to park in the lot.

Trail is in great shape; no obstacles. We really lucked out with the weather, too: cool and cloudy to start, warm and sunny on top. Fall colors weren't in full effect yet, but there were a few patches of pretty oranges and reds along the way. Fantastic views of Rainier, Adams, and the Ohanapecosh River valley from the lookout. Foot traffic was pretty light, though there were several other groups at the lookout tower when we arrived. I don't recall encountering any bugs at all. Fantastic early fall day in the mountains!
