Ascent Trip Report

We took the Western approach. The first dirt road, 2N02 , is horrible in several spots with rocks sticking up on one side of the road, which caused my truck to tilt sideways and could cause a rollover in some vehicles. The next (and last) dirt road--2N90-- is virtually impassable. We drove about 2/10th of a mile up it, then backed down enough to park on the left side of the road. We started hiking from that point. My recommendation is to park at the bottom of 2N90 and not even attempt that road. We ran into some motorcycle riders who said they'd had a tough time getting up 2N90. Part of that road is fine, but there are enough harrowing sections to make the road impassable.

The hiking directions for route 1 need revising. There is only one fork, despite the instructions to keep right at all forks. There are a couple of spur roads--2N90A and 2N90B which can cause some confusion. Basically, we stayed on 2N90 until it ended at the route 1 recommended parking area. There is a good trail on the east side of the mountain that looked to be well-used.

The peak has the remains of an old structure of some kind as well as a couple of curious communication deals--I don't know what they are, but would like to know.
Great views of the valley below and adjacent mountains. Couldn't quite see all the way to Pappy and Harriet's in Pioneertown, but a neat peak nevertheless.
