Ascent Trip ReportI started out by taking the cable car from the Zermatt and Furi cable station to Trockener Steg, then the next cable car from there to the summit of Klein Matterhorn. I didn't have winter gear, so on the way down I started my hike down from the Trockener Steg cable station (elev. 2939 m), which is just below the glacier and snow. I then took the well-marked trail west, towards the Matterhorn. At the base of the Matterhorn, the trail turns north towards Zermatt. The trail continues past the Schwarzsee cable car station, and zig-zags down to the Furi station.
From Furi, I took the trail through Blatten, which eventually connects with Zen Steckenstasse which runs parallel to the Vispa River. I just followed the river into the town of Zermatt, where I ended my hike at the National Hotel (elev. approx 1604 m).
The hike down from Trockener Steg to the hotel door, took me 3h 40m to complete. The vertical loss for just the hiked portion came to 1335 m. |
