Ascent of Sheep Mountain on 2016-09-16

| Elevation:||9700 ft / 2956 m|
Ascent Trip ReportAccidentally climbed this with the intention of climbing Baldy Mountain. Turns out Turiano's route description for Baldy also applies to this mountain almost perfectly, except for one subtle detail- I may have followed the wrong barbed wire fence to gain the wrong ridge. There is still over 4000ft of gain, you still go over a secondary summit, there is still a faint trail on the ridge, the north face on this one is also impressive, and the trailhead access is identical. Despite my 'mistake', this peak is still pretty awesome in its own right. Had my first wild great horned owl sighting, and got pricked by several of the most aggressive species of cactus I've ever run into. The summit ridge of Sheep Mtn is quite rugged and beautiful. Great views of the Tetons as well as the Wyoming/Salt River Ranges to the southeast.
