Ascent Trip Report

Quick in and out on the AT to Byrds Nest 3 shelter and stopped at Mary's Rock for a snack. The trail is heavily used and not very steep, but a constant grade to the top for the whole 1.9 miles, gaining about 1200'. There are a couple of good views on the way up and the view from the top is great. We continued South another 1.5 miles to the Byrds Nest 3 shelter. This is an interesting shelter with an indoor fireplace...problem with it is it makes the whole shelter smell like a nasty fire ring.
