Ascent of Becker Peak on 2016-09-17
|Date:||Saturday, September 17, 2016|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||8320 ft / 2535 m|
Ascent Trip ReportAfter returning from Dumbo, it was time for the day's main event. Resupplied my pack with food and water and started walking south on the PCT. Turned off on an excellent use trail that begins at the first switch-back. This was the best hiking of the day – – a shaded trail through peaceful forest. The use trail leads all the way to the base of Becker. Climbed the class 2 boulders to the summit rock, where I changed into rock shoes. After some trial and error, I was able to get to within three feet of the high point of the class 3 summit rock, close enough to tag it with a trekking pole.
A narrow, exposed ledge on the north side of the peak leads to another possible route to the top.
2.3 miles; 800 feet gain. 2h45
