Ascent Trip Report

Training hike for my summit attempt in about a month.

My overnight pack was 37 lbs.

Started out at Paradise on a very hot day, the parking lot was packed and I parked way down the valley road.

Left Paradise at 1235, arrived at Camp Muir at 535. Tons of tents in the snow around Muir - at least 50 people I bet. Set up my tent, melted snow, made dinner, read a bit and went to sleep.

I woke up at around midnight to the sounds of climbers prepping to summit. A couple hours later the climbers in a tent near me were back at their tent. Too early to have summitted. Apparently rockfall hit one guy on their rope team directly in the knees and after confirming nothing was broken, just extremely painful, they headed back down hill.

In the morning climbed up Muir Peak. There is a tent up here and a ranger regularly sleeps here!

Headed downhill at about 9am and was at Paradise at 11am. I ran downhill (with overnight pack) from about Pebble Creek onward.

Huge line of cars trying to enter the park. Don't try and enter the park at noon on a weekend.
