Ascent Trip ReportWe parked at the South Fork Trailhead and hiked the Lost Creek Trail to the South Fork Trail. It was here that one of Will's Redbulls popped and he was dripping red ooze from his pack,we washed it in the creek and then hit the Dry Lake Trail to Mine Shaft Saddle where we camped for the night. After we set up we climbed Zahniser Peak. The next day we headed to the Summit via the Sky High Trail, this was the best part of the trip.We walked across the wing of a downed plane and after the switchbacks-the curve just under the peak was magical. We made the Summit around 10am took some photos and walked over to the Northwest Slope had a little snack and headed down the San Berdo Peak Divide Trail picking up Big Draw Peak,Jepson Peak, Little Charlton,Charlton Peak & Red Rock Flat on the way down. We doubled back to Dollar Lake Saddle and headed down Dollar Lake Trail to the junction. We made lemonade from the creek water.Followed South Fork Trail to Poopout Hill Trail Pagging Poopout. At Horse Meadows we cut the hills down to South Fork Trail and down to the Trailhead. We Were all pretty tired and it was still a 3 mile road-walk back to the car,we drew straws and Red Viking lost,so he left his pack and started walking. But some other climbers gave him a ride, so it all worked out.We ate dinner at Paolis in Big Bear then headed home |
