Ascent Trip Report

Decided to attack summit from the north instead of the Katahdin Iron Works side from the south and use the Appalacian Trail (AT). Car parked well short of TH (Logan Creek)part of AT. 2.2 miles of gravel road hiking till found AT, then relatively steep ascent for first 0.2 mile up AT (Logan Creek Trail) then gradual easy hike.

3.1 Miles to summit well maintained. Upper reaches have placed rock steps. Highest mountain in immediate area affords great panaromic views in all directions athough there is not a bald peak at summit. Stubby confirs cover the actual peak but the periphery is bald with rock in nearly 360 degrees. Can view Mt. Katahdin and other Baxter State Park peaks to the north.

Black flies swarmed us when we stopped for too long and eventually drove us from the peak. Conditions were muddy for much of the way due to rain. Trip had varied paced hikers and was not aggressive, so time to top was around 2.7 hours. Entire trip was around 5-6 hours. Total hike was around 10 miles.
