Ascent of Houston County High Point on 2016-09-13Date: | Tuesday, September 13, 2016 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Houston County High Point | Location: | USA-Minnesota | Elevation: | 1340 ft / 408 m |
Ascent Trip ReportI approached the HP from I-90. At Exit 258, I drove south on MN-76 about 13½ miles (before crossing the Root River); turned left (east) on County Road 9 for about 5 miles; left on Looney Valley Road for a quarter mile; left on Hanson Valley Road for about a mile, and then left on Traff Drive until it dead ends. This route is easy to follow, because all the turns are signed.
Jackie graciously gave me permission to climb to the HP, and pointed out the beginning of the logging road in the trees that, after a left fork, gains the ridge. There is a faint trail easterly up the ridge. I agree with Gustav Sexauer that the high point appears to be next to a tree stump. |
