Ascent Trip Report

After the solitude of Kolata and Daravica, the popularity of Bobutuv Kuk came as a surprise! This is a nice hike in a beautiful area, and accordingly popular due to its location in the Durmitor National Park. There were more hikers on the summit than in all the other Balkan mountains put together! We stayed in Ivan Do campsite: this is a busy and not particularly nice campsite, but well located at the trailhead (17 euros for 2 nights, with 2 people). Unlike other places in this region, the park prefers if people camp together within the national park, in designated areas. The trail is well marked, and maps are easily available in Zabljak outside the supermarket (3 euros). The final scramble from the saddle to summit is exciting, with great views and fixed cables for assistance (no equipment needed). Successful summit, and on to Bosnia!
