Ascent of Montara Mountain on 2016-08-19Date: | Friday, August 19, 2016 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Motorized Transport to Trailhead: | 4x4 Vehicle | Peak: | Montara Mountain | Location: | USA-California | Elevation: | 1898 ft / 578 m |
Ascent Trip ReportI started at the San Pedro Valley park campground, $6 to park. Montara Mountain trail is a broad path with mileposts until you leave the park. There is a disconcerting sign as you leave the park saying that the gates close at 5, it was 4:30. Since I remembered a sign at the parking lot saying closing time was 8:30 I kept going. I think that the closing time must be earlier in the winter and they don't change the sign. The lot was still open when I returned so no problem. At the top of the trail is a fire road coming up from the west which leads to the summit. Great views of the ocean and incoming fog. This was the largest vertical that I have carried my daughter Maria up. |
