Ascent of Withins Height on 2014-03-09
|Date:||Sunday, March 9, 2014|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||1506 ft / 459 m|
Ascent Trip ReportMost visitors to this area are here because of the Brontë associations. Top Withins is thought to be the original Wuthering Heights. However, county top collectors pass by in order to claim the highpoint of Bradford Unitary Authority. Strictly speaking the hill summit is 459 metres at approximately SD 977349 and in Calderdale, whereas the UA Top is 457 metres at SD 978350. Neither is specifically marked in any way but the UA top is near a boundary stone engraved with "KC 1902".
Parked to the NE by the bus stop in Stanbury at SE 006370 (although one can park closer up the narrow road). Walked along the well maintained path, which is partly co-incident with the Pennine Way, until above the Withins ruins at which point one must strike out across featureless tussocks, GPS in hand, to the 2 relevant baggable locations. A gorgeous early spring day with fine views in all directions. Returned via the 444 metre trig point for a bit of variety.
