Ascent Trip Report

This is peak is attainable for a summer hike in Tucson. Our hike commenced at about 7:00 AM with temps in the 80s. The trail ascended gradually for the first 2 miles but then gets fairly steep between miles 2 and 3. The main trails were well maintained and clearly marked but we did some off trail scrambling to capture views south of the Sweetwater trail just east of the Hugh Norris trail. The final ascent up the peak on the Hugh Norris trail is not very steep but the summit provides outstanding views of Tucson and Marana. During the decent we did some more off trail scrambling to bag Amole Peak. This peak is about a mile down the Hugh Norris trail from Wasson and is best attained by ascending the eastern face. We completed the trip by 12:30 PM and temps were an oppressive 100 F.
