Ascent Trip Report

A trail and bushwack to 3 peaks -- 14.2km, 6:45 hours RT for all 3 peaks including all breaks.

I am back to Park Mont Orford for a day hike to 3 peaks located in the Mont Chauve area (Lac Stukely). I paid my 8.50$ entry fee at the Le Cerisier Entrance and drove north to the Mont Chauve TH Parking at Lac Stukely (parking is just beside the TH).
This TR covers my day's activities.

00.0km (9h00 hours) ... I left the TH nb on Trail #14 (a wide walk/bike trail).
00.8km ... main Trail JCT. Right (eastbound) is the hiking trail for Mont Chauve (Colline des Sorbiers and Massif des Chenes), I stayed straight nb on #14 for Colline du Lac.
02.1km ... start of my bushwack to Colline du Lac (45.37176,-72.22556). I wacked a moderate west compass line to the summit, only the last 100+ meters being moderately-steep. If you leave the road too early you'll have a good rocky bump to deal with.
02.7km (9h55 hours) ... COLLINE DU LAC fairly obvious summit (45.37061,-72.23061), no views (perhaps after the foliage). Backtracked to #14, then went south.
04.6km ... back to main Trail JCT, went eastbound on trail to Mont Chauve.
05.4km ... another main Trail JCT, I stayed straight (a bridge over a stream) for Mont Chauve.
05.8km ... Mont Chauve loop JCT, left is the western loop "Flanc ouest", I went right on "Flanc Est" as the trail climbs/goes-over the col north of Colline des Sorbiers.
07.1km ... trail "Flanc Est" at col northwest of Colline des Sorbiers comes to a JCT with and obscure trail on the right (45.36598,-72.19886), not shown on my maps. This red blazed trail (which climbs the steep northern slopes) is little used (more of a herd path) and not obvious, it was by chance that I found it - this spot happened to be my preplanned start for a wack to the summit.
07.4km (12h10 hours) ... COLLINE DES SORBIERS summit, a rough area with some trees and a number of rocky surfaces. Some views are available by walking around to the different lookouts, Mont Chauve dominates to the northwest. About 30M before arriving at the summit a sign besides the trail reads "Colline des Sorbiers, Altitude 550M" ???. I took a lunch break here.
For my next destination "Massif de Chenes", I continued with a bushwack/descent on a 150 degree compass line.
08.2km ... arrived at Sorbiers/Chenes col (45.36017,-72.19475), then a moderate climbed on a left-of-south line to the summit, having to deal with some rock outcrops/ledges on route.
09.0km (13h20 hours) ... MASSIF DES CHENES summit (45.35511,-72.19241), a rough area with a few spots as candidate HP. I chose my spot at a beautiful 50M long E-W rock ridge surrounded by tress, no views. I added a rock cairn. Another rock surface is 25M south but in a lower elevation.
I left the summit at 13h45 hours and backtracked to "Flanc Est" going over COLLINE DES SORBIERS for the second time.
10.9km (14h45 hours) ... back to "Flanc Est" at northwest side of Colline des Sorbiers. The original plan was to continue on to Mont Chauve for an updated/second visit, but fatigue and time of day told me to forget-about-it. I backtracked to the TH.
14.2km (15h45 hours) ... back to TH after a 6:45 hour trip.

Its noted that the woods for all of my bushwacks were the same - open deciduous with little/no underbrush, some rock outcrop/ledges to circumvent, a floor having some rock/blowdown but with fairly good footing and moderate slopes expect for few very short sections - overall fairly easy going except for the odd spot.

The worst part of the day was the high temperature and humidity. A lot of people out on the trails today, but none on my peaks.

After getting cleaned up I drove home, arriving at 18h30 hours, for 12 hour day.
