Ascent Trip ReportTurned off I-85 at exit 173 and drove to the end of Cole Mill Road. Parked at the Eno River State Park Visitor Center. I hiked the Buckquarter Creek Trail (red blazed)counterclockwise to the Ridge Trail (blue blazed). The Ridge Trail ends at a yellow gate. The Shakori Trail (yellow blazed)descends to the right/east. I walked around the yellow gate onto the short continuation of the roadway of the Ridge Trail which ends after a 100 feet or so. I turned to the right and hiked along another lane/trail. This trail apparently gets sporadic use. At a couple spots it's overgrown, but for the most part it is simple to follow. Instead of cairns look for horse manure. This trail goes all the way to the high point. A couple posted signs hang from trees and there is a red boundary pipe in the vicinity of the flattish high area.
No views on top. I returned to the yellow gate and hiked down the Shakori Trail to where it rejoins the Ridge Trail and stopped by to look at an old cabin just off the trail before continuing back to the car clockwise on the Buckquarter Creek Trail. This part of the trail follows the Eno River. Scenic. 5.0 miles rt.
