Ascent Trip ReportDescending from Grays Peak was not as loose of a trail as expected. Along the ridgeline it was a pretty defined trail with cairns to guide the way. Just before the col, we passed the the descent trail, and then began the ascent. It began relatively calmly but shortly began to have a some loose scree and a much steeper grade. After a slow climb with some stop and goes, I summited around 9:00 am, taking about an hour from Grays.
We descended the way we came after a relaxing, albeit chilly, break. We hit the col and then ascended a bit to the descent trail. This trail was a bit looser, less work and maintained than the trail up to Grays, but still not a bad class 2 trail at all. Once we met back up with the trail we assented with, it was smooth sailing down the long tail to the parking lot and campsites.
