Ascent Trip Report

***WTC Experience Trip***
led by Mat Kelliher, Jeremy Netka

Three day trip. Friday we packed in on great trail up and over Piute Pass, then continued NW on Piute Pass trail for a bit before turning north on another good trail to Desolation Lake where we made camp near it's eastern shore. Saturday we headed north along the east shore of Desolation Lake and then continued north XC up the drainage system that feeds the Lake, keeping to the west side as we went. The terrain rises gently all the way up from the lake to the final wall leading to the summit ridge; this final bit is a very easy class 1 hike up to the summit ridge and then on the summit block. Great views up top. From the summit we made our way over to the slightly higher Four Gables SW for more phenomenal views.

From 4G-SW we intended to come back down and then hike over to Pilot Knob, but the heat and utterly shade-less terrain wore most of our party out, and at an elevation of 11,400 and about one mile short of the peak, we turned back.

Mileage and gain for the entire trip: 25.2 miles, 5,000' gain.
