Ascent Trip Reportat francis lake i bumped into about 20 teen girls (most likely a sports team on a team building exercise) with two adults, they were all planning on going up to morgan as well. my hopes of a quiet hike were dashed. however they were headed around the east side of the lake, opposite what i had planned (based on the various PB tracks), and seemingly the wrong way. it didn't take me long to get well above and past them on the west side of the lake. they would eventually spread out into two groups, one turning back early, the other making it to ~12500 before turning back. i would have the summit to myself after all.
the views up top are awesome.
i couldn't find the benchmark... i did find a reference pointing at a cairn with some prayer flags. i didn't feel the need to disassemble the cairn to see if the benchmark was hiding underneath.
what's up with the USGS topo not matching reality at the top? the benchmark icon is quite a ways off from the summit.
by the time i got back down to francis lake i was pretty tired of the talus and rocks :) i would spend ~7 of the ~9.5h of this hike (including breaks) on the 5mi round-trip from the lake to the summit and back. this hike really wore me down.
