Ascent Trip Report

Day 2 (cont. from Matterhorn TR)
After summiting Matterhorn, we began traversing over toward Sacajawea. While Matterhorn wasn't crowded, there were other hikers on it, and we didn't run into anyone else on Sacajawea. Instead of staying high on the ridge that also goes over the Sacajawea-Matterhorn Ridge summit, we dropped down to the left of the ridge (on the side away from Ice Lake), and ended up traversing over some steep scree fields. After about a quarter mile we worked our way back up to the top of the ridge, where there is more solid rock, but 3rd, and potentially 4th, class terrain. The traverse took about 1 ½ hours.

The Sacajawea summit definitely isn't as picturesque as Matterhorn, but still offers great views, especially of Chief Joseph and Hurwal Divide.
