Ascent Trip ReportAfter our early morning ascent of Inovec we drive to North side of the peak, Zahradky (N48.96266° E19.58950°), cable car 19 Euro round trip.
From top station (cafe restaurant) short climb on rocky path to busy summit of Chopok (P270m, summit a pointed outcrop N48.94301° E19.59279° 2017m).
We descend ESE on faint bouldery path to join very obvious main trail leading ESE to Dumbier. Just past the saddle is a fork with a choice of routes to summit. We keep R (S), saving the N alternative for the return route. Initially hot sunshine turning to intermittent rain with some thunder but good views of the steep rocky terrain. Summit is a large boulder (N48.93640° E19.64028° 2036m) next to a tall slender trig pillar, with a cross on a slightly lower boulder a few metres to west.
On the way back the rain clears. Back at the top station we have a few minutes for cake, coffee and ice cream before riding the cable car down in a (brief) thunderstorm.
Our final destination for the day is Vysoke Tatry for Gerlach, where we have booked into Slieszky Dom hotel for 2 nights.
