Ascent Trip ReportThe Barcroft Laboratory opens the road gate twice during the summer from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., which shortens the hike to White Mountain by 4 miles round trip. Kathy and I were heading to White Mountain Peak 13615, White Mountain Peak 13908, and Mount Barcroft, not White Mountain. From the last switch back along the road on the way up to White Mountain, Kathy and I made our way across a short class 3 ridge, but near the end we stayed too high, and ended up crossing over the ridge to avoid technical rock, making a couple of borderline class 4 moves in the process. Once past the ridge, it was easy walking up to White Mountain Peak 13908 and White Mountain Peak 13615. On the return, and with Kathy doing the route finding, we managed to find and follow a mostly class 2 route with some class 3 moves mixed in across the ridge. Once across the ridge, we followed the road down toward the Barcroft Laboratory, then made a detour up to Mount Barcroft before making our way down to our vehicle. Also, the summit register dates to 1982, and the high point and register is just a little north of the summit shown on the Peakbagger map.
