Ascent Trip Report

Credit to Craig who located this old lookout which was not on my list. From Omak I tried to go via the Columbia River Road but at the turnoff it was noted as a closed road 9 miles ahead. I figured this for an issue before the turnoff for the peak. So I had to drive to Nespelem and around the S side on the Columbia River Road. Also at the turnoff for the Columbia River Road on this end it was signed as road closed 25 miles ahead from Nespelem which I figured was on the far side of my turnoff. But I continued on and no issues there. Turned off on the E end there towards Saddle Horse Flats and then up the summit road BIA 67. Same as it has been with no signs or gates. The road is generally pretty ok but maybe a high clearance vehicle is needed in a few spots. Lot of burned forest. It gets a bit rougher around 3500 or so in spots. Continue up around this summit until WSW of the peak. Stop at the spot where the road goes between 2 3880+ contours. Parking spot with an old road veering off to the right while the summit road goes straight ahead. You can just walk up over the one bump and then get to the LO. But instead, take a downward trending very old road on the left which curves clockwise around the contour S of the lookout contour. The old road quickly goes back up and heads over to the LO as this was the access to it back in the day. LO is in decent shape. Long since abandoned with holes in the roof, lots of broken glass, and shutters falling off. But structurally it is still alright for now. Also foundation here for the other LO and you can see old rotting legs that are fading into the ground. Anyway, one old lookout issue cleaned up. I didn't bother with the summit since I've been there and done that. Drove out via some variation of the Cameron Lake Road which is the fastest exit to the W since you can't go NW on the Columbia River Road currently AFAICT.
