Ascent Trip Report

This was the last peak on an 8 peak trip primarily through central part of Nevada, 6 of which were Ultra Prominence 5000' peaks. We added this on the return trip to Seattle. Other reports show the access to the TH(where road crosses the Pacific Crest Trail, in detail. A stop at the ranger station in Mt. Shasta confirmed that and that there were a few spots to car camp at the TH. There are no difficulties finding Mt. Eddy as the side trail east through the lakes basin (and off the PCT) is marked. There is well graded trail all the way, and we did complete it in about 6 hours. There are times you can make about 3+ miles per hour on the trail getting to the lakes. The lakes had no one camping at them and offer nice pristine camping on or near the water. The wild flowers were out and we did see bog orchid going to the lakes, along with shooting star. Nice easy trip in reasonably cool and breezy weather(70's). I experienced some sense of nostalgia in looking down on Castle Crags and the PCT route, since I had completed the trail in a one year venture in 2007. It was truly like visiting an old friend.
