Ascent of Sacajawea Peak on 2008-09-13Date: | Saturday, September 13, 2008 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Sacajawea Peak | Location: | USA-Oregon | Elevation: | 9838 ft / 2998 m |
Ascent Trip ReportOne of the more strenuous dayhikes I have done. Its a long day and lots of elevation gain on poor trails to come at this from Hurricane Creek. My knees were fairly well worn out at the end of this hike.
I would repeat the hike up into the basin to do Hurwal Divide a year later, and found the approach was not as bad as I remembered. The trail out of Hurricane Creek is steep until you get close to the Thorp Creek basin. The ridge up Sacajawea is steep and rough, so it does grind on you a bit, especially on descent but this is definitely a day trip. |
