Ascent Trip ReportDavid drove me from home to Manker Flat, where we met up with Andy, Orion and Indigo. Also a young woman with a cat, named Milo, in a pack on her back. Had to park a ways down road from gate. Started hike at 10:00. Andy and kids went a fair way past the Register and turned back from there. David and I continued to Ski Hut, where I met Wende Sherman who was doing maintenance work there. Continuing up to the ridge past the Bowl, we encountered Dan Jonasson descending, his 780th ascent of Baldy. On the summit met Leo (from Laguna Niguel) and his 15y/o son Alex, who had just done San Jacinto recently and were aiming for San Gorgonio. D & I spent almost an hour on the summit. On the descent encountered a cheerful, garrulous Korean man, Sam, age 79, who had made very good time getting there, much faster than our tired pace. He said this was his 580th ascent, including 10 ascents in 11 days recently. This was his church, his hospital, his social club.
Got back to starting gate at 7 pm.
