Ascent Trip Report

I drove up the incredibly rocky road to the saddle of Blackhall with the intent to ski. I'd been working on the East Fork Encampment River Trail with the Forest Service the past week and I had been eyeing up some snow on the lower summit of Blackhall for skiing. The road was so bad, that I almost gave up in my Subaru. From the saddle, I walked up the road to the fire tower which had a lot of communication equipment on it. I saw the Beaver Creek Fire burning to the east and it looked pretty tame. Just a few puffs coming out of the mostly dead beetle kill forest. I returned to the car, then went and skied a couple spots off of the lower summit, before hiking back up the road and driving down.
