Ascent Trip Report

County HPing was non exciting and uneventful but I was surprised at the diversity of oaks in both locations so as part of my botany hobby I collected a red oak species possibly Shumard with very large leaves and a specimen in the white oak group but with a very wavy appearance to key out at Pottawotamie County and in pursuit of the Logan CHP I collected Blackjack, and white (marilandica and alba)note to self, the specimens at Pottawotamie that were white oak may have been new species to key out....were not classic white oak leaf undulations and lobes. UPDATE - it is a western morph variety of chinquapin oak where the tips are not pointed and the leafs are narrower than in the east.
