Ascent Trip Report17 of us were set to work on Madulce Peak Trail. We left Alama Campground at 7.30am and started hiking in before 8am from Big Pine road. The first mile was mostly free of obstructions but only two down trees. Those trees were sawed, while some of us went around those trees and occasionally trimmed our way through the next 0.3 miles. Then we hit the area where hasn't been worked on in the last year. It was a horror in comparison to the first mile. Overgrown bushes created tunnels that we could only crawled through. Fallen trees in steep grade with no physical way to loop around. We continued to saw and removed smaller fallen trees on the trails and opened up the bush tunnels until we reached the switchbacks only half mile to the peak. This part of the trail was much nicer because of the open space. We finally summitted at around 1.15pm.
On the way back, we only needed to jump over the big dead trees, where we've created steps on the trunks. Including two 10min breaks, it only took us about 2 hours to return to Big Pine Road from Madulce peak.
The 6mi roundtrip became 19mi in my GPS track because of the trail work we did. I'm so appreciated with the trail work other people have done before us.
