Ascent Trip ReportOpen weekend at the Davis Mountains Preserve. Started the hike around 9:45 with clouds covering the summit. The first section up to Bridge Gap, where the trail splits, is a little steep and loose at times, but fairly moderate. From Bridge Gap, we took the Limpia Chute Trail up, which was a very nice, forested section. When Limpia Chute re-merged with Bridge Gap Road, the trail is a pretty easy stretch up until the last section, which is a scramble up to the top. There is a section that requires some care, but isn't overly difficult. On the way down we took Bridge Gap Road instead of Limpia Chute, which was the most unpleasant portion of the trail. It was pretty steep most of the way and lots of loose fist sized rocks. In hindsight we would have taken Limpia Chute both directions, nicer trail and better views, in my opinion. My kids (5, 7 and 9) all completed the summit without assistance (other than on the scramble). The summit has great views in all directions. It is covered in lady bugs. |
