Ascent Trip ReportThis highpoint was well marked compared to many others. We (Jonas Abdo and I) drove into Wind Cave National Park, easily found the turnoff for Rankin Ridge, and parked at the trailhead. We used cohp.org trip reports for this highpoint for the driving directions. We saw lots of bison, deer, rabbits, etc. We took a short, pleasant dirt road up through some trees to the tower at the highpoint. There was also an interpretive trail available. We walked around all the ground near the tower to ensure we stood on the highest spot. The views were a great complement to the wildlife and good weather. We managed to sleep in the car for free at the trailhead without being disturbed, but there is an official campground near the visitor center. I use the Gaia GPS app on my smart phone to mark waypoints. |
